on a train, i'm across from eli.
katie's standing near the window,
but not looking out at the buildings.
eli is reading advertisements.
i ask him where we're going and he shrugs.
says, "it doesn't matter very much."
dan used to live on varet.
he don't seem to recognize me.
as the train pulls into the station
katie looks up. she's leaving.
i ask her where she's going and she shrugs.

i wake up and the window's open,
diesel trucks are blowing like the wind.
